It is with great sadness that the association announces the sudden death of John Roe.
John died suddenly while travelling overseas.
John was Life Member Number 32, awarded in 1981. Over his more than 50 years’ service to the association, John has moulded and developed hundreds of referees at various levels of the game.
John served three terms as Secretary/Executive Officer, with almost 14 years combined service. He served as Director of Refereeing over three years as well.
John had served on the appointments and coaching roles within the association on and off since 1973. His contributions to the association were further recognised with being named the 1995 recipient of the Darkie McCall Award.
When John stepped down from active service in Parramatta a few years ago, he joined South Sydney Referees, and served 3 years there as Secretary there.
The association will advise once the funeral details are known. This will occur once John’s body has been repatriated and is expected in early May.
